China Telecom Plans to Launch Music and Video Search Engine
Local financial newspaper reports that China Telecom (NYSE:CHA) is planning on launching its own music and video search function in order to strengthen its 114 search engine. Since September 2006, China Telecom formed an alliance with Windows Live Search to provide search engine functions to China Telecom’s over broadband subscribers. However, due to the strong presence of Baidu and Google in China’s search engine space, the competition in traditional text searches is fierce. On the other hand, online video search is relatively new in China and the demand for high bandwidth entertainment contents are rapidly growth. Thus Redline China believes the launch of these new functions is likely to help China Telecom to develop a greater brand recognition and user base for its 114 search portal. Source: sina.com.cn
